Re: (I) 5 26 37 +4

Very nice, Motherlode. Thanks for sharing your approach! I will need some time to check this out this weekend, and I'm looking forward to it. Interesting about the Lydian scale intervals over the Sonic Migration voicings. Seems like I often put the outer melodies over the more inside chords. It's ni...

Re: (I) 5 26 37 +4

ML, that sounds very cool. Beautiful even, with the sounds you have chosen. Now, will you humor me and allow me to be a little dense here, I want to understand. I need help with terminology. By "sonic migration" I think you mean all intervals in the chromatic scale, each arranged in the or...

Great story and great memories, I'm sure!

Of course, it would be great to have him stop in!

Motherlode,

Great stuff!

What good is "knowing" this stuff if we don't have it at our fingertips?

Marcus Belgrave article

I am more aware of Detroit now, thanks to Motherlode, so I read this article about Marcus Belgrave with interest. And, of course, I love that period of Ray Charles' groups.

BTW, ML, thanks for all you do on this site.

Re: I don´t remember it!!! about dimished chords.

So, to clarify, in Wave progression you suggest the follow harmonic progression: DMaj7 (D Lydian scale first degree)- Bb dim (Bb lydian first degree in the form of an auxiliary dimished scale)- Am7 (C lydian scale VI degree) and D7b9 (C lydian scale II degree in the form of a Lydian dimished scale)...

Re: I don´t remember it!!! about dimished chords.

the most ingoing place to go is spelling it like IIIh degree of F#, in the form of F# Auxiliary Dimished Blues I agree that the notes of this scale fit the harmony, however, I don't think it can be called a IIIh mode. The IIIh mode implies that the Gb Lydian scale resolves to a triad built on Bb. T...

Re: I don´t remember it!!! about dimished chords.

Take the chord progression, in Db (I chose Db to use the Edim chord): | F- | Edim | Eb- |Ab7 | Db | What scale choice makes sense for Edim? I often find it most practical on the fly to think Db Lydian Diminished. | AbL VI | Db LD/bIII | Gb VI| Gb II | Db I | It's just easier for me, because we are i...

Re: I don´t remember it!!! about dimished chords.

Great post, NateComp, thanks. As PMG +IV of Bb Lyd Dim, we have Bb C Db E F G A Bb This is cool. I just wanted to point out that this +IV Modal Tonic degree is listed on chart A as an Alternate Modal Tonic (AMT). I think Chart A is really supporting your choice to add +IV as a Modal Tonic Degree (wh...

Re: I don´t remember it!!! about dimished chords.

Check out the footnote on p. 25: "Augmented and diminished chords are regarded as belonging primarily to the I major and VI minor chord categories of the Lydian Chromatic Scale." I think the rationale is that you look down the left side of chart A as the first step. You are trying to ident...

Re: Application/ Lydian Augmented

Motherlode, On Saturday I thought up some lines on 7th chords around the cycle for a fellow harmonica player. Only the next day did I realize I had started the whole thing on the Maj 7 over a 7th chord, and that the first measure could be seen as chromatic embellishment of the Lyd Aug on the 5th. lo...

Oh man, to hear Diz and Louis's rhythmic conception next to each other is breathtaking. I'll try this on for size.

Re: "Eclipse"/ Lydian Augmented

ML,

That is, of course, an excellent suggestion. I will use that.

I'd love to hear your other thought as well, as I need to work up a multi song repertoire.

Thanks a lot for the time you spent putting up the sound clips.

Re: "Eclipse"/ Lydian Augmented

Motherlode,

This is off topic too. I'm looking for a tune for harmonica with a New Orleans feel with an intellectual bent on top. Would you have any ideas?

Re: "Eclipse"/ Lydian Augmented

Hey ML,

I saw your tonal gravity chart earlier. Maybe that could be its own thread?

Have you worked with triads in tonal gravity much?
