Those chord changes remind me of something that Joe Satriani does a lot, which he has called "pitch axis theory". Over one bass note (8th note pulse, for example), various modes, and yes, chordmodes, are sounded in succession, one per measure. Very cool sound.

It's also very cool to see how you have combined the idea of secondary tritone with the 'augmented triad triangles'. I have thought along both lines before, but never in connection with each other. Similar to what's going on over in Bob's thread, it's very interesting to contemplate what insight mig...

I liked your 'movable triangle' thought experiment. I discussed something similar with Sandy a while back regarding the possibility that a similar diagram that John Coltrane came up with could form the basis of a slide-rule type of device for relating different tonal centers. In discussing the Conce...

It's also interesting because Russell said that the perfect fifth was the 'strongest' tonical interval, which implies it's not the ONLY tonical interval. That would mean that although tonal gravity flows down in fifths basically, there is also a tonal gravity force at work (weaker than that of the f...

The basis remains in the original four tones (C G D A). The E B F# and C# are related to the first four by THIRDS, not fifths. And the Ab Eb Bb and F are also related to the original four by thirds, not fifths. This is how the bell-set was TUNED, so it may or may not have reflected an underlying the...

Another Angle for this LCS topic

Russell's argumentation about the Lydian Scale draws a lot from ancient Chinese (and other Asian) sources and theories. They were big on cycles of fifths and even found ways/systems to turn the spiral of fifths into a closed circle for purposes of modulation. Although they primarily used pentatonic ...

Again, thank you Ben. I don't have the older books. What is the Law of Resolving Tendencies, and what makes it a law? Without knowing this, it seems like the answer to "why do flat-lying LS's resolve to sharp-lying LS's?" is just: 'because they do'. I know that's not your answer to that qu...

My mind goes crazy with questions!

Here's another:

Could you say that the GCE for VTG is the PMG's of a scale, and the GCE for HTG is the CMG's of a scale?

Thank you, Ben. I am 100% comfortable with the fact that the vertical Lydian scale also contains the materials for horizontal resolution by means of it's CMG's, representing sharp-lying Lydian Scales. My question stems from the fact that the Major Scale is also viewed as an eleven-tone-order scale. ...

Chespernevins: To continue with our comparison of approaches: If we remove the tone of a tonal order from our reckoning that does not actually occur in a typical scale of that order, we get the following weights (comparing LA and Lb7) C Lyd + Ab (G# - creates LA) b6....Ab.....C4 3 D6 1 = 4 b2 +4.......

Chesper: A concise, reasoned argument. Thank you for taking the time. In the interests of objectivity, I wonder if we do well to consider the differences between a FULL LYDIAN SCALE in the presence of the 'foreign' note, and the actual scales that represent a given tonal order? Reason being: in the ...

Humans are not machines ... but that doesn't make the science that relates to music - and governs the materials we create with - irrelevant, or relegated to machines. If it did, then why does Tonal Gravity and the Lydian scale even matter? If the stated ideals in the LCC appeal to you (they sure do ...
