Re: Lineage

Bob, I just picked up the incredible new Wes Montgomery CD release on the Resonance label: https://resonancerecords.org/shop/wes-montgomery-back-on-indiana-avenue-the-carroll-decamp-recordings/ There are two tracks featuring George Russell alums, David Baker, and David Young, playing with Wes. Great...

Re: Compass Insignia From Title Page

[quote="wskerpan"]On the title page (of the 4th edition at least) there is what seems to be a circle of fifths with the markings "Deep south" and "Passive". This same graphic is displayed more legibly on the homepage of George Russell's website where it can be seen to a...

Re: Chord Progression/Analysis/Creation

I think the best way to learn about progressions and create chord progressions is to study tunes. Go get a stack of fake books and study the harmonic schemes of tunes. If you want to experiment with the Concept, assign different Modal Genres to Lydian Tonics. In your analysis of Wave, you have the L...

Re: Composing Music using LCC

[quote="ecsmix"]Hi guys. How are you? I read in some other forum that LCC is the best way to achieve the logic of composition of Bill Evans. The author of the post said: LCC explains much easier the way how Bill EVans used to think, do you agree? How to think like those guys, "outside...

Al Kiger

I'm sad to inform you all of the passing of Alan Kiger, in Austin TX, on July 20, 2013. Al was my buddy and I was always honored when he would show up in the audience at one of my gigs. Al played trumpet on a number of incredible George Russell recordings including: Jazz in the Space Age George Russ...

Re: Uberbill's questions

Not sure. Seems like the 'search' function is a little 'jacked up'. Did you have have another question about Tonal Gravity?

Uberbill's questions

Forgive my ignorance, for I have just joined the forum as well as just began reading the LCCOTO. Being an aspiring musician, I too, am struggling with the "Concept" and the original question (above). I must refer to page 53 of the text regarding GR's reference to tonal gravity wherein he s...

It's a self-published book and I'm sure doing a reprint to fix the 'mistakes' would be cost-prohibitive. I'm sure there are some others terms, and typos in the book. If these alone shy you away from the broader scope of the book, so be it. Russell wasn't a scholar. He was one of jazz's finest compos...

Welcome, Joey. The password was only to keep the forum from being inundated with daily porn spam, apparently being posted by 'bots. It was a real problem. Once the password was used there were no more problems.
Now to your questions.....

Re: solfege and LCCOTO

[quote="mandala"]Hi, I'm newly registered, but I've been lurking for some time... Does anybody have a strong opinion about how to best mesh solfege ear training with the Concept? I visited the New England Conservatory page, and they apparently use a "fixed do" system of some sort...

[quote="DroneDaily"]I'm starting to get confused so please forgive me if I'm a little off... If the LCC is not for creating chord progressions (as sandywilliams said) but for chord-scale unity, then could you determine the chord progression using the theories of traditional harmony? Or, us...

[quote="Bagatell"]As if I didn't have enough to chew on with LCCTO I stumbled over http://www.interferencetheory.com/ and as there has been no mention of Richard Merrick here, I thought some of you might be interested in his ideas. [quote]From prior discussions, you may recall that the tri...
